The
is a mapping application that allows you to view one or multiple Internet map
services in your Web browser. Use the
to access hundreds of Internet map services available through or other mapping sites to view individually or together. With the , you can create beautiful, informative maps using geographic data from many of the world's leading publishers.
The supports several specifications of the Open Geospatial Consortium. A list of these specifications can be found at the end of this page
Below are descriptions of each tool available in the application.

New Map |

Click the New Map button to remove
all services and start a new map. |

Remove Services |
| |
Click the Remove Services button
to remove one or more map services. When the dialog displays, highlight
a map service or multiple services by using the Ctrl or Shift keys
and click Remove. Then click Close. |

Move Services |
| |
Click the Move Services button
to move map services up or down. When the dialog displays, highlight
a map service and click the up or down arrow. This moves the map
service up or down. Repeat until you have the map services in the
desired order. Click Refresh Map, and click Close. |

Set Transparency |

Click the Set Transparency button
to set transparencies for map services. Type the desired transparency
value for the map service. Repeat for all desired map services.
Click Refresh Map, and click Close.
Note: By default, all map services are set to
25%. Once you change the transparency of a map service, it remains
that way until you change it again. Moving a map service up or
down does not change the transparency of the service. |

Add Services |

add map services to the . Click the Look in dropdown arrow and select an Internet server or type the URL for an Internet
server to connect to. To access restricted services, check Show
restricted services and type the user name and password for the
services. Click OK. A list of all services available on the server
displays. Select the services you want to add to your map and click
Add. Click Close. |

Find Places/Addresses |
| |
The
has been designed to assist you in finding an area of interest.
You can find your area of interest by using one of the following
options:
Place - If you are looking for a specific place, perform
the following steps:
- Select 'Place' from the "What do you want to find?" drop-down
box.
- Type a place name under the 'Find a Place' entry field.
- Click the 'GO' button.
A list of all places matching the place name appears in the
dialog window. Click on the name that you are interested in from
the dialog window and the map viewer refreshes and re-centers on
the place you selected.
Latitude/Longitude - If you are looking for specific
coordinates, perform the following steps:
- Select 'Lat/Long' from the "What do you want to find?" drop-down
box.
- Enter the latitude coordinate in decimal degrees (e.g., 34.854) in the 'Latitude'
entry field.
- Enter the longitude coordinate (e.g., -94.361) in the 'Longitude'
entry field.
- Click the 'GO' button.
The map is refreshed and is centered around the latitude and
longitude coordinate you entered. |

Remove Marker |

Click the Remove Marker
button to remove the marker placed on the map during a Find operation.

Identify |
| |
Click the Identify button to display
attributes for a map feature. When the dialog displays, highlight
a layer in the drop-down list and click on the map. The feature under
the pointer will be identified if vector data is available. |

View Map Legend |
| |
Click the View Map Legend button
to display the legend for the displayed map services. Click Close
to close the dialog. |

Draw Search Area |
| |
When you search for data you can use your Map Viewer to
define the search area. This lets you search the site for data that
covers a particular area or location on your map. Click this button
to draw the search area as a box on the Map Viewer. To change the search
area, simply draw it again.
If you already have the Search page open you should see the
small map on that page update to reflect the search area you drew on the
Map Viewer. If the small map doesn't show your search area, click the "Get
Box Already Drawn On Viewer" button on the Search page.

Define Search Area By Selecting Feature |

Use this tool if you want to use the extent of a particular feature
in your map as the search area. Click this button and in the dialog
that appears choose the name of the layer that you will be selecting
a feature from. Then click on the feature. The search area will
be drawn on the map covering the feature you selected.

Remove Search Area |

Lets you remove the search area currently drawn on your map.
This button has no effect if your map doesn't have a search area
drawn on it.

Open Saved Map |
| |
Click the Open Saved Map button to
open a map you have saved. To do this, you must login to your Account
if you have not already done so in the current session. Select the map from the list and click
Open. The selected map will be displayed. If you already had a map
displayed before you clicked the Open Saved Map button, you will be
given the option to save it before opening the selected map. |

Save Map |

Click the Save Map button to
Save the Current Map, Create a Map Link or Save as a Web Map Coverage
(WMC). Note: You must be logged in to your GeoStor
Account to perform any of these actions.
To Save a Map - click the Save button
located on the Map Viewer toolbar and a dialog box appears with
three options. Click the Save Map option and click the
Save button. Next, type a name for the map and click
the Save button again and a dialog box appears confirming
that your map was successfully saved.
To Create a Map Link - click the Save
button located on the Map Viewer toolbar and a dialog box appears
with three options. Click the Create Map Link option
and click the Save button. A dialog box appears displaying
the URL (link) to your current map. You can copy this URL and paste it into your web browser's address bar, an email, your own web page, etc.
To Save as a WMC - click the Save button
located on the Map Viewer toolbar and a dialog box appears with
three options. Click the Save as WMC option and click
the Save button. A dialog box appears giving you the
option to Save the file to your computer or to Open the file. |
